Positive and Negative Realities Covid-19

Updated: Oct 23, 2021

I am feeling caught-up in all things Covid-19. I am tempted to stock up on toilet paper and cleaning supplies for two reasons: 1. I don’t want to run out and 2. I don’t want to be left out.

Things feel pretty uncertain and the wave of canceled and postponed events has me a little shook. I mean it’s hard waking up today knowing that Disney World and Disneyland are closed. It doesn’t matter that I haven’t been there in over 15 years. The barrage of bad news is overwhelming. It might be a good choice to limit, or even turn the news off completely. While it’s important to have the facts, even the scary, negative realities, it’s equally important to balance it with positive realities as well. So, maybe try counting your blessings or make a gratitude list. Focus on the number of people who have overcome the virus instead of just the number of fatalities.

You get to choose what you spend your time thinking about. I encourage you to have a mix of positive and negative realities. Another coping strategy is to connect with others. Don’t go this alone. If you’re scared then reach out to someone. If you think this is ridiculous and overkill, reach out to someone. If you’re mad because people are so frantic and have purchased all the toilet paper and hand sanitizer in your city, then share that with a friend. We are all in the same boat right now. You are not alone. Chances are I am feeling the same things that you are.

I think we all need to ramp up our self-care right now. Share with your friends and family what brings you comfort. My friends and I are trying to figure out if we can do a virtual game night together. Which might just look like grabbing a mug of our favorite beverage and video chatting! Let’s tap into our innovative sides and get through this.

Leave a comment below on a strategy you are going to use to connect to your friends and family.
