Feeling Unproductive and Unfocused? Try This:

Many women think that doing more helps them achieve more, but in actuality the opposite is true. If you've been feeling burnt out and unfocused, it may be time to reflect on how much self care you've been practicing. By self-care, I'm not referring to bubble baths and spa visits. Are you getting enough sleep, quality food, water, laughter and quality time with friends and family?

Are you behind in visits to the doctor, dentist, acupuncturist, naturopath or massage therapist?

As women we tend to take care of everyone but ourselves, then complain that we're not productive. When you take care of yourself, you feel better, have more energy, and can focus more effectively.

Besides productivity and focus, here are some other benefits of self-care:

Improved Mental Health

When you are feeling anxious or depressed, it can be difficult to focus on work. By taking care of your mental health, you can improve your mood and concentration. Some ways to improve your mental health include practicing mindfulness, meditation, or deep breathing exercises.

Increased Energy

When you prioritize sleep, exercise, and healthy eating, you can boost your energy levels and reduce feelings of fatigue. When you have more energy, you can better focus on your work and get more done in less time.

Reduced Stress

Stress is a common cause of decreased productivity. When you are stressed, it can be difficult to focus on work and make decisions. By practicing self-care, you can reduce stress levels and improve productivity. Some ways to reduce stress include taking breaks, practicing relaxation techniques, and spending time in nature.

Improved Physical Health

I've learned from personal experience that taking care of your physical health can also improve productivity. Movement always gives me a boost in energy and mood. Healthy food choices also give me an energy boost as well as increase focus.

Better Work-Life Balance

In order to eliminate burnout in my own life, I had to prioritize self-care. Most people report that self care helps them feel more balanced and more satisfaction with life overall. By having a better work-life balance, you can approach work with a clear mind and increased focus, allowing you to be more productive.

If self-care is a struggle for you, know that you are not alone. I believe that self-neglect is an epidemic in America today. I want to invite you to join me for the September cohort of Dare to Lead™ Virtual, and participate with a small group of like-minded, supportive, high-achieving women. We begin Thursday, September 7.
